Are Tanning Beds dangerous, is sunbathing dangerous? Here are some safety tips when visiting a tanning salon or purchasing one to help make your experience as safe as possible.

Make sure you are using or purchasing a high quality tanning bed. This means to get online and do some research to find out which beds are best to use. If your visiting a salon they may be able to tell you.

Make sure that the beds they have are good quality, have good bulbs, safety check list for tanning and the beds are kept clean. It’s very important to use quality tanning lotion when you are tanning inside or outside. There are specific lotions made for tanning beds which are different that ones made for outside use. The lotion you use will determine the amount of UV rays that reach your skin. Try to use hydrating lotions for tanning and it’s very important to also use high quality hydrating lotions after your tanning session to keep you skin safe and looking great.

Don’t over tan. The tanning beds have time limits on how often you should tan, so follow their directions. They get paid to research and make sure there beds aren’t going to hurt people who are using them. So it the bed limit is 12 minutes then don’t stay for 15…follow the time limits for your own safety. I also would advise not to tan more than 3 days out of the week. That’s plenty enough time for a good tan and it’s a good rule of thumb to help keep you from over doing it. Make sure you are using eye protection when you tan. Salons provide them but you should also be wearing them it you are tanning In your own bed at home.

What is the wattage of the bed you are using or looking to purchase? Most beds fall under two categories – high output and very high output. High output use 100 watt while the very high output uses 168 watt bulbs. I would recommend the high output bulbs which as they will be sufficient for a quality tan plus they will be cheaper in the long run to replace if you have you own bed at home. Be aware of your sun exposure in tanning beds and outside naturally.

Don’t over due it either way, always better safe than sorry. Pay attention to your family’s history of exposure to the sun and act accordingly when you decide to tan yourself. Keep up to date on the precautions and safety guidelines and reports that come out of the tanning and beach industry. That’s the best way your going to know that you are doing what you can to take care of your skin and enjoy yourself at the same time.
