Sunless tanning lotion can be tricky to apply. Sunless tanners can sometimes leave streaks, discoloration, and stains on your skin if they are not used properly.

When learning how to apply sunless tanning lotion properly, there are a few tips and tricks you should know. These tips will allow you to achieve a nice even sunless tan that looks almost like the real thing.

The first thing you should do before ever applying any kind of sunless tanner to your skin is use an exfoliating body scrub. It can be a sugar or salt scrub – doesn’t matter which one. All you do is get into the shower and dampen your skin with warm water. After you will take a couple handfuls of the scrub and rub it into your skin in a circular motion as if it were a body lotion. This will help effectively exfoliate the dead layer of skin from your body. Once you are done exfoliating rinse yourself down with more warm water and pat your skin dry with a cotton towel. The reason exfoliating the skin with a scrub is so important before applying a sunless tanning lotion is because if you leave the dead layers of skin on the sun tanning lotion will not fully be absorbed by the skin, and it will leave you with streaks and discoloration. The better you exfoliate your skin and body the better the tanning lotion with look on your skin.

After you have done the exfoliating you can than take a couple handful of the sunless tanner lotion at a time and start by massaging it into one body part at a time for 2 minutes straight. This will help make sure you have covered that body part completely and evenly with the lotion for a nice golden even sunless tan. When you get to the backside of your body and skin have a friend or love one help you apply the lotion. Most people miss doing the back of their body and skin because they can’t reach and don’t think it matters. If you do this you will end up with discolored skin and a really uneven tan.

The last thing you want to do once the tanning lotion is on your skin is allow it to dry for 20 minutes or longer without clothing on. If you do not allow the lotion to fully absorb into your skin and dry you will have a blotchy tan instead of an even one. After tanning lotion has dried you can put your clothing on and go about your day. If applying sunless tanner to your face, wait until the lotion has dried before you apply your makeup. Just remember to wash your hands too get the tanning lotion off of them or they will turn orange.

Discount tanning beds, high pressure tanning beds can all be found online at various shops or stores that sell nothing but tanning bed equipment. Here in Arizona, they’re spreading like a wildfire. Most do not want to endure the incredible heat that occurs just about every day. May as well hop into a tanning salon, order up some coffee, maybe get a haircut while you’re at it. Then, lay yourself down, shut the door and take in some of that tanning bed pleasure that just about puts you to sleep in a relaxed state!

Does your skin burn when you tan?  Well, you may want to check your favorite tanning salon’s bulbs.  They may contain more harmful rays that burn you, than helpful ones that tend to brown your skin and leave your skin with a bronzed glow.

If the bulbs in the bed(s) you are using contain a high percentage of UVB rays, then your skin will burn.  In this article, we’ll discuss the difference between UVA and UVB rays, how to spot the difference and the solution to remedy this problem.

It’s important to keep in mind that when you are tanning you are exposing your skin and your body to UVA rays, which are good and promote a brown tan.  But you are also exposing yourself to harmful UVB rays which is damaging to your skin, causing it to burn.  It’s important to understand the difference.  You’ll want to use bulbs that have a low emission of UVB rays, following, you’ll learn how to spot these low emission bulbs.

Before you jump in the tanning bed, pay special attention to the bulbs.  All ultraviolet bulbs state their UVB percentage.  If a bulb says 5% UVB it gives off 5% UVB rays, which burn and allows 95% UVA rays to soak into your skin, which will give you a rich, brown tan which is ultimately what you want.  It’s important to make sure your ultraviolet bulbs have a strong UVA emission.  This is important to ensure a warm, healthy glow instead of the “lobster” look.

There is a helpful alternative to traditional tanning bulbs and that is referred to as a high-pressure tanning bed.  High-pressure bulbs are made from quartz, which filters out harmful UVB rays for more tan and less burn.  This type of tanning bed is a commercial bed that has an open design with no doors or lid.  Many beds in tanning salons use high-pressure bulbs, if only for your face.  High-pressure bulbs typically perform best on medium to dark skin tones.

It’s important to protect your skin when tanning.  Always use lotions before and after and if at all possible, use UV bulbs with a high UVA emission.  And a great alternative to conventional or high UVB emission bulbs is the high-pressure tanning bed which protects your skin by filtering out the UVB rays that burn and promoting a nice, brown, healthy tan.  Have a happy, safe tan!
